Rose research since 1977.
Plant Research Overberg is the Dutch rose-rootstock breeder. Our science began at Wageningen University, where Dr. Peter A. van de Pol set out to improve how roses are grown.
Amongst others he invented Stenting (or topgrafting), the method that grafts rootstock and a rose in a single step. And he introduced Natal Briar — the rootstock that became the world standard and has held it for forty years.
In 1995 that research became a company: rose breeding company Plant Research Overberg, based in the centre of the Netherlands. The company was and is family-run, and it has one strong focus — research and breed better rootstocks for the people who grow roses for a living.
We work the way research should. Every candidate is tested against Natal Briar, the control — same house, same weeks, counted stem by stem, at working farms around the world. What earns its place, we sell. What doesn’t, we don’t.
We set the world standard once. We intend to do it again.
